“Good morning everyone! I am Sana Usman from KG and I love to swim! I have a big family with mama, baba, my twin sisters Sara and Soha and my dada abu and dadi ammi. All of us like going on picnics and eating ice cream!”

Children learn about themselves and construct their own identity within the context of their families and communities. In early childhood settings, children develop a sense of belonging when they feel accepted, develop attachments and trust those that care for them. As children are developing their sense of identity, they explore different aspects of it (physical, social, emotional, spiritual, cognitive), through their play and their relationships with people, places, and things.

Maktab preschool focuses on the theme of identity (name, family, likes, and dislikes) in the first month of each academic session. Children read stories and books, draw themselves and their families and talk about their experiences and personal likes and dislikes during the first month.

A theme day event was held on Friday, October 8th to celebrate the theme of My Self and My Family. Preschoolers’ parents and grandparents joined them for oral presentations, activities, and games. Everyone enjoyed the event, the company, and the happy glow on innocent faces.
