“Do we have more muffins?”, “Return twenty rupees to Ali”, “Oh…the break is almost over…. I wanted to get another slice of pizza”, the Maktab Courtyard was abuzz with excitement last Monday, during the bake sale organized by student-run Puppet-Making and Pottery clubs.
We all know that self-organization, teamwork, and leadership skills are critical to succeed in modern life. Such life skills cannot be easily taught in a classroom setting.
At Maktab, student-proposed and student-led clubs are one of the ways we encourage children to be inventive, independent, and resourceful in a team setting. At the beginning of this academic year, Maktab students democratically decided to run four clubs: Puppet-making, pottery, Gardening, and Chess. Since the clubs needed to raise funds to finance their activities, they decided to have a bake sale.
From decorations of the tables, designing advertisement posters, distribution of duties, queue making to handling the accounts, the impressive organization of the whole event was carried out by the students themselves
