Board Members

Dr. Amatul R. Chaudhary

Prof. Dr. Amatul R. Chaudhary started her professional career at the Department of Economics in Punjab University in 1962. She was one of the pioneering women economists in Pakistan. She retired as the Dean Faculty of Arts, Punjab University in 2002.  Since then she has actively continued her research and involvement in various non-profit organizations.

Dr. Hijab Chaudhary

Dr. Hijab Chaudhary graduated Aga Khan University in 1990. She completed her residency at the world-famous Massachusetts General Hospital. Since then she has been practicing at various Harvard-affiliated hospitals such as Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Mount Auburn Hospital. She is a member of the BWH Faculty Newborn Service and is an Instructor in Pediatrics at the Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Irfan Chaudhary

Dr. Irfan Chaudhary is the founder of Maktab. After completing his A-levels from Aitchison College, he went to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He graduated from MIT with a B. Sc. in electrical engineering in 1993. After working for six years in Pakistan, he went back for his Ph.D. to MIT.  After a three-year stint as a postdoc at MIT, he returned to Pakistan in 2008. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at UET, Lahore.

Mr. Adnan Lawai

Mr. Adnan Lawai has B. Sc. and an M. Sc. in electrical engineering from MIT. He is a seasoned entrepreneur. He is currently the CEO of Folio3, a software development company offering digital innovation and delivery services. He has a keen interest in education in Pakistan and has been involved in the education sector in Pakistan.

Dr. Susan Tacent

Dr. Susan Tacent has a Ph.D. in comparative literature from Brown University. Over the years she has taught literature to students of all ages. She was the co-founder and director of a school called the Parent-Teacher Cooperative (PTC).  The warmth and homelike atmosphere of PTC (that was later renamed The Laurel School) was one of the original motivations for starting Maktab. She regularly publishes in literary and academic journals.

Mr. Osman Khalid Waheed

Mr. Osman Khalid Waheed is the CEO of Ferozesons Laboratories Limited. He obtained his undergraduate education from Harvard University. He has been instrumental in expanding and modernizing Ferozesons Laboratories and forging alliances with leading international firms. He is currently serving on the boards of various companies and NGOs including Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Nestle Pakistan, and IGI Insurance.
